Teambuilding. Team Bonding. Team Spirit.
You’ve heard these terms before. You may have invested money on events for your team to create these things. It may or may not have been worth the money.
So, should you be paying attention to and investing money in these things?
That depends.
I’m seeing a lot of uncertainty in the workplace right now, a lot of hesitation, a lot of frustration and worry boiling just under the surface. Teams feel this. Teams respond to this underground uncertainty.
Poor team performance is part of a growing problem and part of the growing frustration of managers and owners. Teams are struggling to work together to effectively and positively hit their goals. Some are way off their targets already, or at least far below their potential.
Many managers tell me that they have good, talented people. Some claim their people have even performed well in the past, but now they are disconnected, distracted, and disengaged.
A floundering culture can show up as misunderstandings, conflict, low morale, lack of collaboration, increased turnover, blame, poor productivity, and no accountability. Your team may be divided and detached.
So, what’s missing? What’s the answer? Teamwork? Team bonding? Team Spirit?
I don’t believe that an obstacle course or random pizza party will fix this for you.
I believe it comes down to one thing: Strong leadership that creates real, tangible connection within the team. It takes building connection to one’s self and to the team.
Connected teams communicate well. They care for each other and are committed to each other and to the business.
If people are disconnected from their purpose and the “why” behind the goals, they burn out quickly. When they are connected to a sense of purpose, they are filled with energy. Teams that are really connected to themselves and each other solve challenges together. They thrive. In my experience, they are the ones that collectively perform well above their potential.
Teams with a strong sense of connection are more innovative, happier, and better at problem solving, risk taking, creativity, and growing, personally and professionally. They also have a much lower risk of burnout. Business productivity is driven by these things.
If you want that, then what do you do?
You work on it.
Building connection is an intentional process, but it’s not hard. It starts with you, their leader, and the impact ripples throughout the team. Then, it starts with each one of them working on themselves, facilitated by leaders who ask the right questions and offer the right support.
We help them find their purpose, connect to the business vision, and fuel their own positive mindset.
Next, we create a day where the team connects together—really connects—in ways they never have before. We help them create team agreements for which they feel a sense of ownership. We don’t ignore the negativity. We have the difficult conversations. We help them connect as human beings who are all searching for a sense of meaning, respect, and accomplishment.
This is what our Team Calibration Retreats are all about: Connection. Alignment. Hope.
We help you move from disconnection to connection, from disengagement to excitement, from negativity to optimism. We help you develop the foundation which allows you and your team to build something incredible.
Some teams have brought us in year after year to facilitate these retreats for them. Building and sustaining connection is not a one-off thing. It’s an always thing.
You can have this—a team that is connected, focused, and on fire for achieving your goals and vision.
Call us. We can help.
