Sorry to sound the alarm, but Christmas is only 10 days away! How is it even possible that we are already at Christmas? It seriously feels like we were just celebrating July 4th… like last week.
When I think about how fast time is passing in my life, I can easily fall into a mild sense of panic that I won’t have enough time for all that I want to do, accomplish, and experience. I often have the feeling that time is actually speeding up. The years seem to go by faster and faster, and I know I’m not alone. Many of my colleagues, family, and friends complain to me of the same experience. But, this morning, I had a very different feeling about the passage of time.
As I was sitting in my cozy “snug” (the British word for a cozy space), where I sink into my morning routine of prayer, meditation, breathing exercises, and journaling, I had a fresh idea, a new, and perhaps improved, perspective about the passing of time.
What if it wasn’t “passing” us at all, as in getting away from us, creating a deficit, or being subtracted from some cosmic whole? Instead, what if time was always simply “presenting” itself to us? What if it was presenting completely new packages of opportunities to explore, discover, nurture, and develop?
Within this new awareness I felt myself instantly shift from a feeling of loss, panic, and dread to one of feeling refreshed, excited, and even exhilarated. I found myself all day feeling so much appreciation for the segments of time which had been presented to me throughout the day. Through this lens, time feels endless to me. Maybe I’m getting my first glimpse at what “eternity” might be, and I like it.
This week, as the holidays bear down upon each of us, rather than feeling the “passing” of time, try embracing, welcoming, and even reveling in the “presentation” of time from one sweet moment to the next and into which we can lean and grow, explore and develop—constant and never-ending.
A shift in our perspective changes everything.

Love this new perspective! As I’ve often said it seems like we are lifting our blinds for early AM daylight and 3 hours later we are closing them as it’s dusk.
Or I’ve heard, “Life is like a roll of toilet paper! The closer to the end, the faster it goes”.
I’m going to think the more presentations we shall have!
It really is a great perspective, isn’t it, Linda! Thanks for sharing your comments with us. We are all wishing you a bright and relaxing holiday filled with love.
