Raise Them Up

I recently listened to a webinar with Jon Gordon where he said, “Don’t call them out, call them up.” He was referring to the kind of leadership communication that LionSpeak is all about, one based in the belief that there is almost always more greatness to be leveraged within every single one of us than we routinely bring to the table. And one good leader can unlock that.

In my experience, many are given the position of leadership, management, or coaching but few are given the communication playbook to be successful at it. I could count on one hand the number of leaders I’ve coached who have been well-supported and fully trained coming into their position. In fact, in the last few years, I’ve witnessed many leaders with great potential bailing out of leadership, saying things like, “I didn’t sign up for this kind of abuse, pressure, or dysfunction!” Many feel that taking a leadership promotion has cost them friendships, respect, peace of mind, and many sleepless nights. What a tragic shame!

The truth is, they were probably tapped on the shoulder for the promotion because they were exceptionally good at their jobs. Unfortunately, the skills necessary to be a great leader are tremendously different than clinical skills or tactical skills needed to perform job tasks. But most of these smart, talented professionals could have become great leaders and loved their new position of influence and mentorship IF they had been given the playbook and the tools.

In the Spring, I’ m releasing my new book on this exact topic. In it, I give the playbook and the tools to help anyone who wants to lead others with clarity and inspiration and wants to love their role doing so. The book will be a companion to our current Leadership Academy where we coach leaders and managers to establish a strong leadership mindset and master three essential conversations to become the leader people truly want to follow. Both the book and the Academy are dedicated to giving leaders the tools and the playbook to “call their people up” to a higher level of performance in every aspect of their job, results, and professionalism.

If you are interested in simplifying and strengthening your leadership communication or want to fully support your current or prospective leaders with the mindset, skills, and playbook they will need to be successful, call us. We can help. In fact, we’d love to help. It’s our mission and our calling to elevate leaders and managers so they are capable of aligning and growing a whole new team of superstars.

“The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership.”
