You’ve heard the saying, “Health is wealth.” No money in the world can help or heal us if we do not have our health. Life is not worth much if we do not possess a sound mind and body, regardless of how big our bank account is.
Steve Adams found this out the hard way, and, fortunately, he did something about it before it was too late.
I met Steve, a successful businessman and entrepreneur, last year when I was hired to help him with a competition speech in Dentistry’s Got Talent. Steve has had a massively successful career in banking as well as starting and selling several start-up companies. He is smart, kind, and a ravenous learner. He was a fabulous client to coach as he took every piece of advice and absorbed and implemented it and, then, did very well in the competition.
I received an unexpected gift from Steve because the speech we worked on was about his own personal health, and consequently, his own life transformation. His story not only inspired his audience and the competition judges but also me.
In his speech, Steve talked about how his busy professional career had taken over his life. While his finances and career were doing exceptionally well, his sense of self and his relationships with his children, friends, and wife were severely suffering. Most of all, his personal health was at an all-time low with high stress, weight gain, inability to sleep, mood disorder, anxiety, exhaustion, and acid reflux. At 54, it was all too clear that he was headed for trouble if something didn’t change.
And then he had an amazing intervention. He met an integrative, functional physician who practiced medicine differently than he had ever experienced. He decided to invest in testing much more extensive than he had ever received from his primary care physicians and the answers those tests revealed were enlightening, if not frightening. They included food sensitivities, toxic burdens, sleep patterns, hormone balance, movement and heart rate tracking, gut biome health, genetic predispositions, cellular aging, and brain health to name a few.
The recommendations for lifestyle changes that followed were transformational for Steve. He followed the recommendations and coaching to the letter, and it worked. Within two years, he was symptom free, and his cellular age dropped to 25. He has regained balance in his life, and the quality of his relationships have drastically improved. I was intrigued.
I wasn’t in the same shape as Steve had found himself, but I had let myself gain weight, grow sedentary, loose muscle strength, and generally start to feel old with joint pain, sluggishness, and frequent brain fog. Inspired by Steve’s story, I decided to follow his advice: find out the truth, create a plan, and get coaching. And I cannot tell you what a difference it has made just a short year later.
I will turn 65 this year, but I feel much younger. Armed with this depth of information about my health and some good coaching, I now sleep better, feel better, eat better, move more, and hydrate more. I have established a consistent, daily breathwork and meditation practice, I’ve lost weight, and I have a renewed clarity of focus that has improved my mood, my choices, and my results at work. And we’ve just gotten started. For the first time, I do not feel like I’m on a “diet” or ever will be again. It’s just my new normal, whether on the road, on vacation, or at home with everyday life.
As of today, my cellular age comes in at 56, and I’m on a mission to lower it even more as I go along. With our oldest grandchild graduating this year from college and our youngest grandchild just 5 months old, I’d like to live into my 90’s with a sound mind and body. There is so much I want to see, do, and experience yet in this world, and I now get it: the choices I make, the truth I’m willing to face, and the actions I take will positively or negatively impact my ability to do so.
Everyone who counts on us, believes in us, and loves us wants and needs us to be as healthy, fit, and active as we can be. Our investment in ourselves is more important than any investment in our business, career, or physical object ever could be. Our clients, patients, team, family, and friends all benefit when we care for ourselves. Our contribution to the world is enhanced and increased when we are at our best.
Steve was so inspired by his own results that the entrepreneur in him wanted to help scale the program to others. So, Tiger Medical was born. Cheers to health and prosperity for years to come!
