Katherine Eitel Belt is considered The Unscripted Communication Expert in the US, Canada, and the UK. An international keynote speaker, author, and coach, Katherine is the creator of The Lioness Principle™, a unique leadership communication tool. This guiding principle along with several other easily replicable tools are what LionSpeak uses to help professionals communicate with more authenticity and effectiveness. The company specializes in a broad range of communication forums including frontline telephone skills (including mystery shopper services), public speaking skills for executives and sales teams, media readiness, inter-team communications, adult learning techniques for trainers and educators, and personal leadership skills.

Using creative, non-traditional methods to help professionals break through barriers and achieve phenomenal results is something Katherine and the team at LionSpeak love to do! Though this transformative work, Katherine has become a mentor to other consultants, trainers, speakers, corporate executives, and managers. In response to that demand, Katherine created her Transformational Training and Inspirational Speaker’s Workshops as well as her Lion Camp Leadership Experiences which are annual sell-outs in San Diego, California and are considered the premier team retreat for progressive corporate and healthcare teams.

Katherine is a SCN Spotlight-On-Speaking champion, National Speaker’s Association member, Speaking/Consulting Network board member, and past-president of the Academy of Dental Management Consultants. She was recently honored as the 2015 recipient of the prestigious Linda Miles Spirit Award for her contributions to the dental industry.

LionSpeak – Founder & CEO
Master Speaker, Trainer & Coach

katherine-lion-speak

Katherine’s Role: “My role is pretty simple: Providing strong leadership, strategies, and support for my capable and passionate team so together we can grow LionSpeak into one of the leading communications coaching companies in the world. It’s my job to keep things fresh, assure we’re getting results for our clients, and be the evangelist for the powerful principles of communication and self-leadership that we know could and will improve the world.”

Passions: “I’d say I have a passion for ‘exploring.’ I love exploring new foods, wines, cultures, art, history, theater, perspectives, hiking trails, experiences, and rich new conversations. I’m passionate about our summers at Tom’s cabin in the Sierra’s and evenings shared on the porch entertaining family and friends at our Ranch in Southern California.“

Big “Why”: “The ‘why’ that drives me is the undying belief that if we could all learn to communicate with more clarity and inspiration in a non-judgmental, respectful way from a strong emotional platform and in an unscripted, authentic voice… we could literally change the world. We could for sure change our own worlds at work and home.”

What she loves most about working with LionSpeak: “I love what LionSpeak stands for in the world… tapping into the best of human potential and helping people bring that ‘bigger self’ to work and life. I also love the talent this team represents and the depth of their passion for our work and our clients results. But maybe the thing I love most of all about the work we do are those “lightbulb moments” in client’s eyes when we help them have a truly transformational moment.”

Heroes: Great thinkers and clear communicators like Anne Frank, Ronald Reagan, and Nelson Mandela.

Guilty Pleasure: “I was born and raised in Texas and I simply cannot resist an ice-cold beer, crispy thin tortilla chips, and a steaming bowl of blanco chili con queso. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! (It’s a good thing I moved to Southern California because if I still lived in Texas I’d carry a hundred extra pounds!)”

Kelly’s Role: Kelly is the best employee that we’ve never met! It’s true… Kelly started out as our Virtual Administrative Assistant from Vandalia, Ohio in 2013. She moved up through the organization and became a Junior Trainer in 2019. While we had probably exchanged a few thousand emails and video conferenced a few hundred times, we worked together for 6 years before finally meeting. But, it didn’t seem to matter one bit as Kelly is an essential part of our team. She expertly handles all things financial at LionSpeak, manages all travel details for our team as well as our Mystery Shopper Call system and many, many other administrative tasks. Kelly owns her own virtual assistant business called Time On Hand Services so she can work remotely allowing her to home school her two boys. Kelly has a B.A. in Psychology, an M.S. in Counseling as well as being a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio (LPCC) and a Certified Health Coach (CHC).

Passions: “My passion in life is wellness- in every area of life. I love to learn and to teach, and I love to help people be well professionally, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. debbie leander lionspeak
Debbie Leander

LionSpeak Business Manager

debbie leander

Debbie’s Role: Debbie is the cheerful, attentive voice you’ll likely hear when you call or email us to ask a question or schedule a training session. (I mean, we TEACH phone skills so she’s gotta be good, right?!) She’s also one smart cookie with a B.S. in Medical Microbiology and an M.A. in Organizational Leadership.

Debbie makes certain our clients are well cared for, our trainer’s schedules are full, we have plenty of new clients, our speaking engagements and workshops run smoothly, and the office stays organized. Though she’s a true-blue dog lover, she’s really, really good at herding cats, and we couldn’t survive without her!

Passions: Leadership, training and development, and sales top her list of professional passions, having spent more than 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry in these roles. She believes everyone has a “lifelong learning” switch that can be turned on with the right power, and hers has definitely been turned on! Family, dogs, tennis, and decorating round out the personal list. Debbie lives in Temecula, CA with her husband and will soon be an empty-nester as their only child heads off to college. The most common question she’s asked by strangers is, “What type of dog IS that?” (Chinese Crested Powderpuffs… Look them up!) And, she’s stopped going to any more adoption events because, well, four dogs really is enough for one family.

Big “Why”: “I am a lifelong learner. It’s pretty simple, really… there’s just nothing that I am not interested in learning more about. Except exercise. And housecleaning.”

What she loves most about working with LionSpeak: “I love that we help inspire others to a greater vision and provide the tools to fulfill one’s vision. I also love watching clients get excited about training and development. I’m thrilled to support Katherine and LionSpeak’s clients to achieve greater things than they ever thought possible!”

Heroes: “Anyone who perseveres throughout hardship and uses the lessons learned and strength received to inspire others to do the same.”

Guilty Pleasure: “Cookies. Any kind, except coconut.”

She was the glue that held my family together. A celebrity hero for me is Oprah Winfrey because I admire her ability to connect with all people and share her gifts. And, of course, Jackie Kennedy because of her class and fashion sense.”

dez-thorton-lion-speak
Dez Thorton

Professional Speaking Coach

dez-thorton-lion-speak

Dez’s Role: A lot of people would rather take a beating than get up and speak in front of a group. But with a speaking coach like Dez, before you know it … you’ve told a great story, chiseled out a tight outline, had a few belly laughs and realized you’ve got the audience sitting in the palm of your hand. And he just might be one of the smartest and nicest guys on the planet to boot.

At the tender age of nine, Dez forgot his lines in a church play, but he never forgot the embarrassment and humiliation that followed. Since then, he’s dedicated himself to learning and teaching the art of speaking and helping thought leaders say the right words in the right way when they matter most. Professionally trained at the University of South Carolina and Dale Carnegie, he is a past president of the Georgia Chapter of the National Speakers Association and the winner of Speak Tank, a speaking competition hosted by the NSA. He has been a speech coach for TEDx Peachtree, coached hundreds of professionals and corporate clients, and even taught a public speaking class for 7 years at a federal prison (he has a B.A. in the Administration of Justice).

Dez is a phenomenal communications expert and idea enthusiast, and we think he has a knack for transforming the complex into the simple with an uncanny ability to inspire action through story. Whether speaking to a group, looking into a camera or connecting one-on-one, Dez is completely convinced that the cornerstones of communication are confidence, clarity and connection. When perfectly blended, these qualities epitomize the Polished Presenter, one who turns presentations into illustrative conversations.

Passions: “I live in Atlanta, GA with my wife, Demetria, and daughter, Destyne. I’m a proud Read-a-holic and have an obsession with learning and reading personal development material. I also own a transportation company where I employ ex-offenders to help them reintegrate into society.”

Big “Why”: “My enduring objective is to transform communicators from self-conscious to self- confident by adding structure and story to their presentations. I’m driven to help others inspire action through words.”

What he loves most working with LionSpeak: :“I love the philosophy and vision of LionSpeak to enhance communication skills for everyone.”

Heroes: “Nelson Mandela, because he sacrificed nearly 30 years of his life for his beliefs. And, Russell Simmons for his serial entrepreneurship and authenticity.”

Guilty Pleasure: “My love of cars… and trying cram book after book into my head. I’m a total word nerd.”
